Physical Fitness & Sports Month

May is National Physical Fitness and Sports Month! Regular physical activity promotes health and fitness. During National Physical Fitness and Sports Month, we challenge everyone to get active.

The US Department of Health and Human Services recommends that youth ages 6-17 complete at least 60 minutes (1 hour) of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity daily. Compared to youth who are inactive, physically active youth have higher levels of fitness, lower body fat, and stronger bones and muscles. Physical activity also helps to improve academic performance and reduces symptoms of depression in school-aged children.

Is your child getting enough physical activity?

Diamond Hill North Side Youth Association offers athletic activities to youth year-round, including 7-on-7 in the spring, summer football conditioning, youth football and cheer in the fall, basketball in the winter, as well as other athletic activities. In addition to youth sports, we offer opportunities for parents and families to get active through our Walking Wednesday group and DHNS Fit Family boot camp during the fall season.

We have also teamed up with Blue Zones Project Fort Worth to promote healthy lifestyles and recently conducted a community needs assessment focused on wellness. We will also be partnering with our local community centers to introduce youth wellness programs to the summer program.
