2020 Football Season

DHNS Youth Football Family,

After hearing from several medical experts, meeting with NTYFA and carefully considering our options, DHNS Youth Association has decided to cancel the 2020 football season for the health and safety of our youth, families and volunteers.

As we send out this notice, there are DHNS Youth families that are being directly impacted by COVID-19. Some families have lost a loved one, parents have been hospitalized and some are still recovering from the virus.

Gerald and I are the last ones that want to cancel a football season. Both of us continued to coach through our own individual battles with cancer. Very few things could stop us from our work around youth football. However, we draw the line when it comes to putting the health and safety of our DHNS Youth kids and families at risk. We simply love our DHNS football family too much to do that. We would not want our organization to potentially help spread the virus to one of our DHNS kids, parents or grandparents.

This was a very tough decision. We hope you will understand that we made this decision with the best interest of our youth and families in mind.

We are aware that other leagues and teams will continue to play this season. That is the decision that they have made for their youth and families. For us, we know the numbers in our DHNS community are not good. With over 1,000 COVID-19 cases in our neighborhood alone, the Diamond Hill and North Side communities have some of the highest rates of COVID-19 cases and deaths in the city.

During this time off due to the pandemic, DHNS Youth Association will be hosting virtual Madden and Fortnite tournaments, virtual Zoom workouts and possibly some clinics and/or field day type activities. If local conditions improve and we feel that it can be done safely, we will explore the possibility of hosting a 7v7 season and soccer season in late fall/winter. We also hope to resume with the 2021 basketball season as planned.

If you or your family need anything during this time, please reach out to us. We are available and have many resources that we can share. Email us at: dhnsyouth@gmail.com or feel free to call or text Gerald or myself.

Stay healthy & safe!

Sincerely,

Roxanne Martinez
