Mentoring programs have proven successful in improving school attendance, school performance, increasing protective factors and decreasing risk factors. The SOAR mentorship program is an extensive mentoring program targeting underserved youth.
SOAR recruits and trains volunteer coach-mentors, as well as high school and college mentors, to work with 5th – 8th grade students to promote personal and academic success. Mentors and mentees work together in a comprehensive program that includes academic support, skill building, leadership development, athletics and social/personal interaction.
